Claims arising from assaults are increasing in the social care sector

While every employer is required by law to have employer’s liability insurance, it should not be solely relied on as a means of protecting organisations when things go wrong. Employers are responsible for the health and safety of their employees and can be held responsible in the event of an employee being injured in the course of their employment. In addition, if the organisation has volunteers and they are injured, they too can bring a claim, and it is therefore crucial that the employer’s liability insurance extends to volunteers so the organisation is fully protected.
